Hey guys I'm getting ready to change my fork oil tomorrow putting Springs in I've heard conflicting things I've looked up on the form about my 81 CX500 custom I heard fork oil capacity of 4.5 all the way up to 7.3 oz.not Sure who to believe I just need to know the correct amount of oil to put in each
Fork Oil Etc. After reading threads about setting sag, and having owned 3 other bikes with this Showa fork I placed floor jack under exhaust pipes to take load off front spring and pulled off fork tube caps. Spec calls for 5" (125mm) oil level but it had 7.5" level from top of tube to oil. 1) The oil capacity when refilling after an oil AND filter change is 2.9 US qts, I poured in 2 quarts + 29 ounces. That's 2.9 quarts. I added oil, 4 oz at a time. It took 24 oz to come up to the top line. The sight glass reading says it takes 3 quarts + 21 ounces. (2 qts, 29 oz at refill plus the extra 24 oz) Quote from: ekpent on August 02, 2017, 07:01:52 am. To fill the fork legs I add 425cc of oil then top up measuring the air gap, a piece of wood marked used as a dip stick off at the air gap (160mm in your case) makes for an easy method. You could probably stick the 2019 damper rods in an earlier bike with little ill-effect, but you're still limited by their [oil pathway] design, and emulator valves that sit on top of the stock dampers, not integrated into dedicated damper rods like the Rally-Raid fork kit.
